Tamiko Murman, creator and owner of Designs by Tamiko, began her hand-lettering and illustration business as an undergrad at Harvard. While most of her work has included custom design for social events, she is thrilled to have been a part of the visualization for the Equality Lives Here™ logo. She wanted customers of participating businesses to be able to see themselves in one or more of the hands that hold up the letters, believing that we all have to do our part to ensure equal rights for all humankind. As a daughter of a survivor of the Japanese American relocation camps and a descendant of colonial American slave owners, Tamiko has seen the effects of racism in her own biracial family history. She currently resides near Portland, OR with her husband and her three kids, hoping everyday for a more peaceful and just world.
